WALTHER PPK/S 380 ACP
Walther PPK/S is a legendary firearm that has stood the test of time. As a gun enthusiast, I have always been fascinated by its timeless elegance and outstanding performance. Developed by the renowned German firearms manufacturer, Carl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen, the PPK/S has a rich history that dates back to the mid-20th century. It is a compact, semi-automatic pistol that offers both reliability and versatility, making it a popular choice for concealed carry.
A Brief History of the Walther PPK/S
The Walther PPK/S was first introduced in the 1960s as a modified version of the original Walther PPK. The “S” in its name stands for “Sport,” indicating that it was designed to comply with the U.S. Gun Control Act of 1968. This act mandated certain modifications to be made to the original PPK, including an extended grip frame to accommodate an additional round in the magazine. The PPK/S retains the classic design elements that made the original PPK famous, such as its sleek lines and ergonomic grip.
Features and Specifications of the Walther PPK/S
The Walther PPK/S is a compact and lightweight pistol, measuring just 6.1 inches in overall length and weighing approximately 23 ounces. It features a traditional double/single action trigger system, allowing the user to choose between a light, single-action trigger pull and a longer, heavier double-action pull. The PPK/S has a magazine capacity of 7 rounds and is chambered in .380 ACP, offering a good balance between stopping power and manageable recoil.
The pistol comes with fixed steel sights, providing a clear and accurate sight picture. It has an external hammer and a manual safety, adding an extra layer of security during carry. The PPK/S also incorporates a loaded chamber indicator, allowing the user to quickly verify if the pistol is loaded without having to manually inspect the chamber.
The Timeless Elegance of the Walther PPK/S
One of the defining characteristics of the Walther PPK/S is its timeless elegance. The combination of its sleek lines, curved trigger guard, and finely crafted walnut or synthetic grips give the PPK/S a sophisticated and refined appearance. It is a pistol that exudes confidence and style, making it a favorite among collectors and enthusiasts alike.
The attention to detail in the design of the PPK/S is evident in every aspect of the firearm. From the smooth slide serrations to the engraved Walther logo on the slide, every element of the pistol reflects the craftsmanship and quality that Walther is known for. Whether you choose the classic black or the stainless steel finish, the PPK/S is sure to turn heads and make a statement.
Performance and Reliability of the Walther PPK/S
In addition to its elegant design, the Walther PPK/S is also highly regarded for its exceptional performance and reliability. The pistol is known for its smooth and crisp trigger pull, allowing for accurate and controlled shooting. The recoil is manageable, thanks to the .380 ACP chambering, making it an ideal choice for shooters of all skill levels.
The PPK/S has a reputation for its reliability and durability, with a track record of functioning flawlessly even in adverse conditions. The high-quality materials and precise engineering ensure that the pistol operates smoothly and consistently. Whether you’re using it for self-defense or recreational shooting, the PPK/S will never let you down.
Walther PPK/S Holster Options for Concealed Carry
When it comes to concealed carry, finding the right holster for your Walther PPK/S is crucial. There are various holster options available that cater specifically to the PPK/S, ensuring a secure and comfortable fit. Whether you prefer an inside-the-waistband (IWB) holster or an outside-the-waistband (OWB) holster, you can find a wide range of options to suit your needs.
IWB holsters, such as the popular Kydex or leather options, offer excellent concealment by allowing you to tuck the pistol inside your waistband. They provide a close fit to your body, ensuring that the PPK/S stays securely in place while still allowing for a quick and smooth draw. OWB holsters, on the other hand, offer a more accessible and comfortable carry option, especially for those who prefer open carry or live in states where it is permitted.
Before purchasing a holster, consider factors such as comfort, retention, and accessibility. It’s important to choose a holster that allows for a secure and smooth draw while keeping the pistol concealed and comfortable throughout the day.

Walther’s industry-leading innovation takes the spotlight with their PPK model handguns. At the time of its invention over 80 years ago, the PPK inspired an entirely new category in the firearm industry, now widely known as the concealed carry pistol. To fill the need for performance in a concealable package, Walther broke the mold of pocket pistols and full-size military pistols to bring undercover officers a more-practical and reliable option, the PPK. It is chambered in.380 ACP, the PPK provides all the power needed in a self-defense pistol without sacrificing on critical functionalities.
To execute this revolutionary concept, the Police Pistol Kriminal took all the modern advancements available at the time and combined them into one performance leading pistol. It features a double-action/single-action trigger that decocks when rotating the safety down into the safe position, first introduced by Walther.
Few guns have withstood the test of time like the brilliantly designed PPK. To this day, the PPK is still one of the most sought after concealed carry pistols on the market. This demand serves as a testament to Walther’s long-enduring legacy of excellence and unparalleled performance. The timeless design and superior engineering make the PPK a true legend amongst firearms.
PPK & PPK/s – Iconic, Influential & Timeless
The Walther PPK & PPK/s are all three. Since 1930, the Walther PPK been one of the most recognizable guns in the industry. This is due to its starring roles in some of the most popular spy movies over the last 50 years. The PPK was introduced giving people a more compact carry option to the popular Walther PP series. The “Police-Pistol” series featured the world’s first single/double action trigger which also included a rotating safety/de-cocking lever. Nearly 90 years later, the PPK series is still one of the most requested and talked about handguns around. The wait is now over. The Walther PPK & PPK/s will be re-introduced to the market after a 6-year absence.
THE PAST
In 2012 Walther stopped the importing partnership with Smith & Wesson and started Walther Arms Inc., the U.S. division of Walther. The partnership with Smith & Wesson was beneficial to both sides. However, the time had come for Walther to invest more time in the U.S. market. Within the same year, Walther halted manufacture the PPK and PPK/s series. They wanted to re-create the original quality in machining and manufacturing of the early PPK models. With this goal, a collaboration between American craftsmanship and German engineering was born. The PPK and PPK/s slides are manufactured by Carl Walther GmbH in Ulm, Germany, where the original PP series was produced. The frame and internal components are made in the United States and assembled at Walther’s facility in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
THE PROCESS
Being the most iconic pistol Walther has produced, they wanted to give the pistol the time and care it deserved. This meant perfecting its manufacturing processes. The team at Carl Walther in Ulm, Germany re-integrated the front and rear sight into the slide. In addition to that the “wave” anti-glare rib that runs in-between the front and rear sights was also added. The fit and finish of the PPK and PPK/s is near impeccable. You can see the quality from nearly 90 years’ experience of producing these slides.
IMPROVEMENTS
While the improvements to the slide are easily identified, the improvements to the frame requires further investigation to make them apparent. Though, you can easily see the quality of machining in the frame by the fit and finish. The hammer, trigger, trigger bar, cocking piece, and ejector were all returned to being fully machined from the most recent metal injection molding process. Even though metal injection molding is a very reliable process, being fully machined improves the aesthetics of the gun by removing the mold lines and improving the finish texture. Walther also enhanced the material area of the trigger bar and feed ramp, resulting in a smoother trigger pull and increased reliability.

BACK AGAIN & BETTER THAN EVER
The PPK and PPK/s will be available in stainless and a black QPQ finish. Both are incredibly resistant to water and sweat, while still giving you the classic look of the original. Each will feature the timeless checkered grips; those of the PPK will wrap around the rear of the grip, while the PPK/s features two independent side panels separated by the frame’s integral steel backstrap. The main difference between the two models is the frame. The PPK/s features the “sport” frame, which is approximately one-quarter inch longer than the standard PPK frame. This allows you to increase from the 6-round capacity of the PPK to a 7-round capacity by only adding a half-ounce to the overall weight.
Whether you are replicating your favorite spy movie, collecting a classic, or in need of a classy EDC, the Walther PPK and PPK/s are must haves.
